The Shepherd You've Always Needed

The sermon explored three declarations the elders made when they finally came to David, and how each one points us to why Jesus is the Shepherd we've always needed. First, they said "we are your bone and flesh"—David was one of them and understood their lives from the inside. Second, they recalled how David had "led out and brought in Israel"—he had proven himself faithful even when no one was watching or rewarding him. Third, they declared "the Lord said to you, 'You shall be shepherd of my people'"—God Himself had appointed David. What was true of David is infinitely more true of Jesus, who became one of us, proved Himself faithful unto death, and was appointed by God to lay down His life for the sheep.
