The Building Project
May 31, 2026 • John Harris
The sermon explored how King David, despite his sincere devotion, got the direction of his relationship with God backwards. When David proposed building God a house (temple), God lovingly corrected him with a profound truth: "You will not build me a house; I will build you a house." This reversal exposes our tendency to try earning God's approval through spiritual performance rather than receiving His grace. Through David's story, we see that God builds His people on His own terms, by His own grace, in His steadfast love, and on His unbreakable promise—a promise ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the Son of David, who declared, "I will build my church."
