Into the Wild

The sermon explored why God allowed David to wander in the wilderness for years before taking the throne, even though he was already anointed as king. We discovered that God was more interested in shaping David's character than showcasing his competencies. Through merciful provision (the holy bread from Ahimelech), merciful salvation (God's deliverance in Gath and the cave), and the stark contrast of Saul's merciless madness, we saw that the foundation of God's kingdom is mercy—not power, control, or rigid legalism. Jesus Himself confirmed this when He referenced David's story in Matthew 12, declaring "I desire mercy and not sacrifice."
