The Beloved Son

The sermon explored the identity of Jesus as revealed in Mark 1:9-13, covering his baptism and temptation in the wilderness. Before Jesus performed a single miracle or preached a single sermon, God the Father declared him the beloved Son, the Holy Spirit descended upon him, and he was driven into the wilderness to face Satan. These events reveal that Jesus is the beloved Son of God, the Spirit-anointed Messiah, and the one who willingly identified with sinners in order to save them. Together, they set the stage for everything Jesus would go on to accomplish, pointing ultimately to the cross and the rescue of all who trust in him.
