Reclining With Jesus
The sermon explored Mark chapter 2 and the moment Jesus called Levi, a despised tax collector, away from his booth and into fellowship at a dinner table surrounded by outcasts and sinners. Rather than keeping a holy distance, Jesus reclined with them, drawing the sharp criticism of the scribes of the Pharisees, devout and faithful men who genuinely loved God's law. Jesus responded not with argument but with a simple and searching image: those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. The sermon pressed us to honestly examine which posture we hold in this scene. Are we reclining at the table with Jesus, admitting our need and receiving his grace? Or are we standing at the edge of the room, convinced of our own spiritual health, and therefore missing the very healing he came to give?
