Every year about this time, Christians from all over the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus! It’s a celebration like none other, for there is no one else in all of history who claimed what Jesus claimed and also rose from the grave to demonstrate the validity of his claims. We are accustomed to remembering the day someone was born, and we even recall the day someone has died. But none of us ever celebrate the day a person came back to life. Except for Jesus! He is the only one whose resurrection day is remembered across the globe and throughout the centuries. Jesus himself bore our sins in his body on the cross. Three days later He rose from the grave. He is Risen! He is Risen indeed!
For such a unique remembrance, it is important for us to know why we celebrate this event called Easter. We remember the resurrection because of the miraculous nature of it. A dead corpse does not walk out of a tomb. We remember the resurrection because of the hope that it gives. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? We remember the resurrection because of what it promises. Whoever believes in Jesus, though he die, yet shall he live.
The resurrection assures what the cross secures. Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
